As Christmas comes to a close, I encourage everyone take a moment to look back at the memories we created this year.
I have truly enjoyed this holiday season with my favorite girl. Miss Ava has taught me to slow down, not take life so seriously, and sometimes all that matters is being with the ones we love.
I did my best to make her Christmas magical this year. As she gets older it’s become more important. It isn’t so much the presents she gets, it’s what we do together to celebrate the season. This morning we thought Santa messed up and forgot the one thing she constantly talked about, the Nabi 2. But instead of getting upset, instead of being disappointed…she turned to me and said, “Well, at least we have all these other gifts!” Made me the most proud…

So my apartment complex redid their entire main office…wondered why they raised my rent…so I went in to check out what they did with the gym area. It wasn’t in desperate need, but could stand to use some new things. Well, they have 2 really nice treadmills and some other weight lifting equipment along with kettle balls and new free weights. I took Ava with me and of course she wanted to try everything…of course she couldn’t because, well she’s 4… So I showed her by demonstrating (yes, I’m a little sore today). She thought it was just the coolest thing. Then we got on the treadmill and the first thing I showed her was the nice big red stop button! But she was having a great time…of course again, she’s 4, so her attention span on the treadmill lasted 2 minutes. But hey, I was excited that she was excited! It was nice having her in there with me so I could show her things and explain why we exercise and the importance of it all.
Today we went to the park and our new routine is to walk around the park 1 time before she plays and 1 time after plays. It’s a nice extra energy burn to ensure a nice nap afterward!
We went into the apartment office to pick up a package today and the staff told me they saw us in the gym. The lady said, “I think it is so great that you had her in there with you at such a young age. It is so important to start early, even if just by showing them. I didn’t even know what a salad was when I was a child.” My point exactly…

When I decided to take part of Elf4Health I wasn’t sure what to expect. I just thought a few challenges, no big deal…a few posts, no big deal…I was wrong. I never expected how much of a deal it would become. I didn’t expect the change within myself that I would see.
The Daily Challenges:
Going meatless. This was a great challenge…I made it almost all day..until dinner. I didn’t realize how hard it would be.
Unsubscribing. I discovered unroll.me You put in your email account and it goes through it and gives you a list of all the email subscriptions you are enrolled in. I had no idea that I had over 150! I was able to get it down to 28!
New Workout. I discovered the Nike Training Club app. This is such a great way to mix up workouts, with equipment or without, 30 minutes or more…all at home if you want. What a great find!
Make a phone call. This was a nice reminder to call someone and tell them what they meant to you.
Track Water intake. Wow…I didn’t realize how little water I was drinking on a daily basis! I have increased my intake and it’s been such a nice difference!
Treat yourself. I treated myself to Starbucks and pumpkin loaf.
100 Burpees. OMG!! I did the modified version and was sore for 3 days!! LOVE THEM!!
Hand-written note. I participated in a school project in another state that was so much fun! The teacher had a gingerbread man who “disappeared” from their classroom. People across the country sent in postcards telling the class of their sighting.
Eat the Rainbow. I had a very yummy cup of different fruits to “eat the rainbow”.
Makeup free: Um…so since it was a work day, my vanity unfortunately got the best of me…I lessened the amount I wore…that was the best I could do…
Workout Buddy. I pulled Ava into my new workout with the Nike Training Club app…she made it fun although she was making it look too easy!
Operation beautiful. This was by far my absolute favorite!! Everyone went around leaving “You are beautiful” notes all over… I left some in the Target restroom and at Ava’s school. So much fun reminding people to love themselves and they are worth everything!
Fridge & Pantry purge. Oh my…doing this challenge was like a weight off! I learned a trick to help make for easy clean-ups (line the bottom shelf and trays with plastic!) Still looks great too!!
Gratitude list. I posted this one on my blog listing what I’m grateful for. I’m sure I left some things off, but it was a nice reminder that I have a lot to be grateful for!
Circuit Workout. This was a nice little boost of a workout too. I loved seeing everyone sharing their workouts. It was a great way to get different ideas!
Pay it forward. I loved this one too. I paid for the car behind me at Starbucks and I gave out 2 panda express gift cards to strangers, just because.
Healthy snack. Another nice little reminder to eat healthy and to remember to try the rest of the little goodies in my NatureBox kit!
You time. Well, this didn’t go as planned, but I tried….I went to bed 2 hours earlier than normal…but Ava woke up at 2am with a nosebleed. Still, it was a good thing I went to bed early though considering!
Fastest time. I haven’t ran in a while, so my 13 something mile was nice to see.
Closet clean out. Oh wow, this was a relief too! I ended up with 2 huge trash bags of clothes and shoes to donate. And I was able to empty out my storage bench that was in my bedroom, so now I can use it in my living room now!
Plan your meals. Another nice little reminder to eat healthier and a reminder to eat what I already have prepared in my freezer!
Meditate. I haven’t meditated since I was pregnant with Ava. This was a very welcomed challenge! I downloaded the app Daily Yoga that has 6 yoga songs. It has been really nice getting back into this “good habit”.
Wall sit. My goal was 1 minute and I made it 2.28!
Share your expertise. Here is a link to my blog swap http://lifewithjessicakelly.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/guest-post-1/
3 food groups. Well, I was feeling under the weather for this challenge and managed to get 3 food groups for the entire day…but it was a great idea!!
Self-love x 6. This was a nice reminder of what we like about ourselves: Loyal, good friend, caring, determined, good mom, and I never give up one anyone who is worth it!
New Fitness Goals. My 2014 Fitness goals: run 3xs a week, enter a 5k by Ava’s 5th birthday (March 12th!), eat cleaner and cut out unhealthy fast food, and drop (not lose, because I don’t want to find them again!) 50lbs!
Make a Donation. All of the clothes and shoes that I had left over after my closet cleanse was donated to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization! :)
This has truly been a great experience for me and allowed me to see myself in a different light. I’ll be rotating these challenges throughout 2014 for sure!
If you are looking for some Christmas cookie ideas!!

I have been scouring pinterest for some yummy Christmas cookie recipes. I have also come across a lot of other recipes for delicious Christmas desserts besides cookies. Here are some of the amazing recipes that I have put together for you:
She has been one of my favorite actresses for a long time! Early in her career she contemplated quitting, but was convinced to stick with it. Good thing she did, she was a large part of Friends, She’s the One, Picture Perfect, Office Space, The Object of my Affection, Rumor Has It, Marley & Me, many more but recently We’re the Millers.
She is a supporter of an orphanage in Mexico, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Stand up to Cancer, The Cove PSA, Project A.L.S., AmeriCares, and was recently named the ambassador for Saks Fifth Avenue Key to the Cure campaign. She is truly a celebrity that makes a good example and a good role model!

I have been meaning to learn how to bake for a while now and never actually get around to it. With it being the holidays I wanted to learn how to make some awesome Christmas Cookies. I wanted to start out with something easy and yummy. Jon gave me the perfect opportunity when he told me that they were going to have a baking contest at work and he needed 3 dozen cookies. We decided it would be lots of fun to bake together! I found a recipe for red velvet cookies and we decided to add white chocolate chips to them to make the cookie more holiday themed. They turned out delicious. If you feel like baking this week, I suggest giving this recipe a try!
